2008
AAZK Pre-Conference Day Trip
Northern Utah Adventure
Date September 24th, 2008
We will depart from the Marriott City Center hotel at 7am.
Breakfast will be provided. We will first arrive at the
Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge. The Refuge lies in northern Utah, where
the Bear River flows into the northeast arm of the Great Salt Lake. The
Refuge protects critical habitat for migrating birds from both the
Pacific and Central Flyway of North America. A guide will take us through
the refuge to view the birds and other wildlife. We will then have a box
lunch
at the beautiful Rees Pioneer Park in Brigham
City. Then after a lovely autumn drive through the foothills of Logan Canyon we will visit the USDA/APHIS/WS National Wildlife Research
Center Predator Ecology & Behavior Project, one of the premiere
predator research facilities in the world. Scientists at the field
station study the behavior and ecology of coyote depredation, with an
emphasis on non-lethal control methods.
We will promptly leave the facility by 2:30 PM to arrive
back at the hotel by 5 PM. This trip is limited to 28 people, so register
soon! Cost is $35 per person. Please specify if you'd like a
vegetarian lunch.

2008 National AAZK
Post-Conference Trip
Come Join
Us in Red Rock Country!
Dates: September 29, 30, Oct 1st 2008.
On
September 29th 2008 we will depart from the Marriot City
Center Hotel at 8am bound for Moab, Utah. Located in SE Utah, along the
banks of the Colorado River, Moab is the gateway to Arches and
Canyonlands National Parks and so much more. There are more National
Parks, State Parks and other major attractions within a 200 mile radius
of Moab than any other location in Utah. Visit
http://www.discovermoab.com
for more
information. Lunch will be provided for the four hour ride. We will be
staying at a fantastic hotel in the center of downtown Moab, within
walking distance to restaurants, local art galleries and the shopping
district. That evening we will experience a cowboy Dutch oven style
dinner and enjoy a nighttime motor boat tour with
Canyonlands by Night tours up the Colorado River
surrounded by
300-500 foot high canyon walls, all lit up by an amazing light show.
September 30th
we will be accompanied by a Canyonlands Field Institute Naturalist
on a full day hiking tour of Arches National Park. This park contains the
world's largest concentration of natural sandstone arches. Although over
2,000 arches are located within the park's 76,518 acres, the park also
contains an astounding variety of other geological formations such as
colossal sandstone fins, massive balanced rocks, and soaring pinnacles.
We will also see petroglyphs and dinosaur track fossils. The hiking will
be moderate, but everyone must be prepared for high elevations and desert
conditions. We suggest you bring good hiking shoes, a hat, sunscreen and
raingear. Refillable water bottles will be provided. We will return to
our hotel by 5 PM. That evening, guests are free to explore what Moab has
to offer. Perhaps you would like to reserve an evening jeep tour, boat
ride, or rent bicycles. For ideas visit
